Day 2 in the Sewing Studio- not a lot of progress, we started to cut/sew

Today, we decided to get a move on all of our custom orders. We cut a ton of wool, sewed a little and did some tiny improvements. We brought the microwave in, got some snacks and started our little food shelf. We bought a mini-fridge off of craigslist and need to spend some time cleaning it up. We brought some toys and started that shelf (Bonnys son will be with us most everyday and my kids will eventually be there as well). Otherwise, most of the day was spent working. :) Now I am up to date on the blog! I am going to post daily updates for everyone as we get this place in order. I think because we wont be taking a long break from customs, we are going to continue to sew, sew, sew and take customs as they come it may be a long process. It has been so so much fun for me so far, so I hope its fun for everyone to watch. And if you live in San Diego or are visiting the San Diego area, please email us and stop by the studio. We would love to see you!!! We want some guests!

Tomorrow plan & goals:

- Finish cutting customs/wool.

-Sew up as many customs as possible.

-Put away woven fabrics.

-Clean up mini-fridge, get it set up.

Day 1 in the RW Sewing Studio- Unpacking...

Our first day in the studio was spent unpacking fabrics & getting furniture in order. I am going to purchase another desk to go on the other side of Edwards poster (yes, we are major twilight/team edward fans). That is going to be where my printer is, my laptop during the day (Im taking it home at night) and the 2 sewing machines are. My long grey table will hold 2 sergers & a coverstitch machine. :) We got the majority of the fabric in the cubes, but as you can see there is still room which means there is more fabric to cram in!!!

The brown shelf has all of our Hard to Find/Popular fabrics on it, and than we will be folding the small scraps (and there is a whole huge bucket full of more small scraps) that will go on the bottom shelves. The white shelf is holding our thread, and than on the bottom will be all of our woven fabrics (I hope it all fits). We also have a table that is designated for our snap press now (we have had this table for a while but we used it differentely, and with more room and things moved around it an be designated for the snap press! Excited about this! Ok, enough explaining, here are the pics...

This is our scrap shelf. Bottom is solid knit scraps, the next 2 up are wool scraps separated by color. Than we have unfinished projects and the top shelf is finished custom pieces.

Studio Moving Day- Saturday Feb. 5, 2011

So since the studio was painted early (and we had set aside Sat. for painting) we decided to MOVE early on Saturday. It took 3 trips back and forth and 2 cars. We did only have my tiny Prius for the first trip, but I recruited my sister with her SUV to help us with the last 2 trips. I have no idea how I fit all this stuff into my bedroom, it took some serious organization! It feels so nice to have so much room now. So here it all is in all its messy glory. The only thing we did Saturday night is set up the cubes for fabric storage. We plan to put up some sort of curtain to cover the fabric (or maybe we will just love looking at all the fabrics and keep it the way it is). Opinions please...

We started moving at 11am (and woke up at 9am mind you after going to sleep past 3am the night before, we were just THAT excited) and finished around 10pm, we went to dinner at the restaurant my sister works at, and than headed home for some R&R. Sunday, we took off to spend time with our families and super bowl of course!!! It was hard to leave behind all my wonderful things & my business, it definitely has become my baby! :)

Studio Painting Day- Friday 2-4-2011

Title says it all. :) We are ahead of schedule on the studio! :) We planned to start the process on Monday, Feb 7th. But we decided to get started a little early! Friday Night, we started painting around 6pm and painted until almost 3am!!! We got the whole place done, it just needs a few touch ups. We are thrilled with the color. We debated on the main color of the studio for around an hour in home depot and we both finally decided on going with this color, and we love it!! We originally thought we would go with something earthy (maybe an avocado green on some walls & medium brown on others) but than we decided that the blue was a calm serene color but it was also fun & exciting! It was quite a job painting the studio and we were so sore from up/down the ladder every 3 mins and you would never think but holding paint brushes & rollers for 8 hours is labor intensive! It was fun though...

We decided to build our whole bathroom around the Joel Dewberry Almond Aviary Fabric. We did a deep orange on the bottom half of the wall and a tan khaki color for the top half. We plan to embellish some hand towels with the fabric, even frame some of the fabric and do various other things to make it an Almond Aviary bathroom! We are excited about this, it is sort of a gutsy move painting half the walls in orange but we think we can pull it off. We also are going to put a dark cherry wood trim to divide the colors up.

Rainbow Waters New Studio

So, I know its been a long time since I have used this blog. I found facebook for my business and I found updating from there easier. But, this post seems worthy of a blog entry and so therefore I am revisiting the blog today!

So when Rainbow Waters began, it started in my living room with a tiny wooden shelf, on top of it a sewing/embroidery machine and beneath it lay a few yards of fabric. We moved a few times, and we grew. Eventually, I decided my business would be better off in my bedroom so that the mess wasn't in my living room when people walked into my house. Slowly, in order to make room for the business I started getting rid of personal furniture to make room for business furniture. And this worked for a long time. I had 6 machines, a large cutting table, thousands of yards of fabric and much much more. :) In mid-2009, I hired my friend Bonny to help me with a co op and liked her help so I decided to ask her to help me full time. She said yes! :) Bonny helped me to organize my business, use the little space I had better and she cut all fabric. She has been amazing!! Anyways, why this long sappy post over a sewing studio? Well, for a long time, Bonny and I would search craigslist for offices, studios & store fronts, dreaming that one day we would have one. We would dream of how we would decorate, where the machines would go, the space we could have for the kids to play. We never thought that dream would come true so soon!

One day, I was randomly searching craigslist again, and I came across this studio that was on someones property, gorgeous views, hardwood floors and the price was really right! Something I thought I could pay if we really budgeted the business. I decided to email him on a whim, it was a long shot this place was still available since this price was way too good in San Diego to last. It was! We decided to look at it, we still were not sure if we would apply, everything was happening so fast. We were still nervous about the logistics and if we could make it work not sewing from home. We saw it and we fell in love! We HAD to make this work. He had other offers, so things had to work out just right for us to get the place. Well, we got it! :) So with that, I am going to end this blog post, and we will be doing blog posts of our progress of painting, moving in & setting up the studio. And at some point, I will post some before pics of all the years of Rainbow Waters in the home. :)

Rainbow Waters Update!

We have been MIA from the blog again, but we are back and with more fun photos of customs and news updates! A few things are changing with our price lists and we want to keep you up to date! Due to rising costs of wool, we decided to take a second look and reevaluate our materials verses labor costs. All of this has led to a slight increase on our wool prices, $2 more for each size, that we have found necessary in order to continue selling wool products. We hope you will understand. However, our new prices will not go into effect until February 1, 2010. Any orders that are paid for before this date will be charged the old wool prices.

Here are the prices as they will be posted on February 1st, 2010:

We will do our best to take as many orders as possible before February 1st for those of you who would like to purchase some last minute wool at the the old price. But, please keep in mind that the turn-around time may go up depending on the volume of response. We will give you an accurate estimated completion time at the time of your order. Please feel free to purchase a slot or email me to put in an order - I will accept as many email orders as I can at this time.

We have also reevaluated our applique prices and have decided to do more of a sliding scale system based on the complexity of the applique. These prices will also not go into effect until February 1, 2010. I may put some sort of gallery on the site with examples of the different appliques and the price that particular applique would be. Until that is complete, please email for a quote.

Good news for RW Mamas, and great news for our RW Mamas in Canada! Another wholesale order was completed for Lisa, from www.theclothdiapershop.com, just a few weeks ago and should be rolling into stock soon! My customers have been super creative lately and I have loved being able to sew up their creations! Keep them coming! Here are some we've recently been busy with and finished:

We've also been kept very busy with work on our tester diapers! We've gotten quite a few orders for these and I think that we're in the final stages, and ready to introduce these diapers onto Rainbow Waters' Hyena Cart soon. Here are a few I've recently done:

This is especially great news for my Canadian mamas, as theclothdiapershop is in Ontario! Updates and Introducing "New Additions"

Wow!

It's been a while but we're officially back! I'm sorry I've been neglecting the blog, and for some time now - we've been busy busy sewing customs, filling orders, and more! I'd like to thank all you for all your continued support over the years – you make Rainbow Waters all it is today! :) I will be making more of a serious effort at updating the blog. (And, of course, more photos of our fun creations!)

All right, to business! There's a shop on my main website that has said “Under Construction” for some time now, and my hopes are for that cart to consist of instock solid-colored wool items, baby layette items, appliqued tees, and much more. I hope to have this part of my site running by the end of the year.

Now the fun part! Photos! One of the things offered on my site right now is a baby layette made completely out of organic fabrics. Not only are layettes a fun need for any new addition, organic fabrics make these SO yummy! I will be offering a New Additions package, which is an entire baby layette, as well as offering New Additions Singles to choose from. Each layette is designed to mix and match so that you've always got something sweet, soft, and ready for baby to snuggle in! Here are some photos:

Something new to come to Rainbow Waters....

This product should debut in the next 2 weeks. I'm not going to tell much about it right now, more later. This diaper is in testing right now, however we could use some more testers in all sizes. Do you want to be a tester for the new Rainbow Waters TrimFit Fitted Diaper? Shoot us an e-mail!

The cost is $10 per fitted and each person will receive one diaper to test. Shoot us an e-mail if you'd some info on being a tester. Testers will be shipped within 3 days of payment as we would like some info on how they work for your baby. Testers will include a free matching wipe as our thanks for giving this product a try! :)

A Birthday Custom...

I realize I have been so busy, I have seriously been neglecting my blog! This is my attempt to get back in the habit of showing you what I have been working on in an effort to complete my super long custom list.

If you have a custom with me, please read...

I just wanted to let everyone know who has a custom with me, that I *am* behind right now on everything. I took on more than I could chew in a 4 week period, and so right now, I have a lot of customs that are far past that turn around date. I have been in contact with all my customers, so this Im sure is no surprise to you. But since, its easier to make a public announcement, than to email all of you at once, I am posting this to my blog.

I bit off more than I could chew after my ectopic, than my son started kindergarten (and my dd preschool) and I thought my life would get easier when he started kinder, but instead it got a little busier.

I am working through ALL of my customs in the most timely manner I can with still a small (4-5 hrs a night) amount of sleep and time for my children/family. Please know that I am working as fast as humanly possible to get your orders out to each and every one of you.

Once I am finished with my list, I will be spending the majority of my time doing instock, and starting to pull names from my waiting list which is getting quite long. I dont think I will take email customs any longer, its super hard for me to say no, but now I got myself behind, so Im sure you'll understand. :) I will occasionally do hyenacart customs just to be fair, but really it will be VERY minimal, as I will be focusing on my waiting list and instock. I have some very exciting things in store, that hopefully happen by the end of the year, but first I must get through this loonggg list. :)

Anyways, if you have a custom with me, I want to extend my apologies to you. I know I have made a few promises on due dates that I have not kept.
Lastly, my serger I guess has been taken quite a beating lately, as it has totally wonked out on me AGAIN! I will be going to a friends house everynight (and during the day when she is there) to serge until my serger is out of the shop. I will be taking it in tomorrow. I dont expect to slow down from this matter.

Thanks for your patience in this matter. I am so happy that my customers have been so understanding, and its completely flattering to me to be overwhelmed with work, however next time I think Ill be taking things a tiny bit slower! LOL

Introducing Summer....

I am very excited to introduce my new email assistant, Summer. :) Not only is she a dear friend, but I have decided to hire her to help me with emails that are more general- ie. asking about stockings, customs, the wait list and maybe more as we move along. We will be working very one on one, and my ultimate goal for you and my business is to "keep it personal". My customers are not a number or just an order to me at all, and while I do remain professional, I like to get to know my customers, let my guard down a little, and laugh and have fun with them. This bond between Rainbow Waters and my customers will not be broken by adding an email assistant at all. Summer is a very warm and energetic person, and I know you are going to be thrilled to hear from her as well. :)

Email Assistant???

As Im sure you have noticed, I have been a little slower answering emails in the last couple months. It seems since I started 3 yrs ago, Rainbow Waters has slowly grown over time, and its just amazing to me! I love it! I want to make sure I am being as efficient as possible in getting your questions answered, items sewed & shipped in a timely manner, etc.

Im not sure exactly how this would work, but I have been looking into getting a friend (who is part of this lovely cloth diapering community, a lot of you probably know her. ;)) to answer some general emails for me, so that I can focus most of my time on getting the product in your hands as quick as possible. Basically, she would answer any general inquiries about my products & their interest in a custom slot. I would let her know where I am on a daily basis, whether or not I am open to taking email customs at that time, and if not, she would direct you to my waiting list and help you add yourself to the list if you needed some assistance. She may help with other webwork as well, like adding pictures to my gallery, and some other randomn things.

One of the most important things to me in my business is "keeping it personal". I strive for professionalism but at the same time, I want my business to be a personal experience for both the customer and myself. I like to get to know my customers as I sew for their children, a lot of the time it helps me visualize the item on them, and get the sizing and design fit to each families personal style. I dont think this would in anyway impair that bond I have with my customers, however I would love to hear your input. Any current orders would be directly sent to me, and any general inquiries would be sent to my "e-mail assistant" at a Rainbow Waters e-mail address. Ultimately, your email will be forwarded to me in the end and as we create your order, I will be your main lady. :) This is just to help me in a small way work mostly on sewing, and getting the product into your hands a little faster. However, if my customers feel this would take away from the personal bond, please let me know. Your opinion matters most.

I know I said that last post, however I have been super busy with life, sewing, etc. :)

Ok, now for some news....

First of all, if you are here, you already have seen that my website had a makeover. We are still in the process of perfecting a few small details, but overall the site is done. Andrea of Wanted Webdesign has been doing my design, and she has just been amazing to work with. :) I think I have been super picky as I wanted everything just right, and she has done amazing and done more than I could ask for. So, please check out her site if you are ever in any need of webwork. And than, check out the site, look through it. I hope its more user friendly for you. ;)

Secondly, I got a new camera. I am so so super excited about this. I purchased a Nikon D60, and while my pictures before were nice, I hope this makes for a clearer picture of my products. I am just thrilled. Some of the pictures above were taken with my new camera and Im sure you can tell which ones. Sooo excited.

Third, as you can see on my website, I am hoping to open a retail store/integrated cart on my site. I think it will happen sometime by the end of the month, but we shall see how it goes. I have a lot of products in mind for this cart system, but I think I will keep that a surprise until we get closer to having the website up. I think you will enjoy whats in store. Most of my one of a kind, appliqued products will probably remain on hyenacart, and I will not be selling my custom slots anywhere but on hyenacart, by email, or my waiting list. But I do hope this helps some customers get their hands on some of my products quicker in a timely manner.

Fourth, as some of you know, I just endured an ectopic pregnancy about 3 weeks ago, so I have been moving a little slower than normal. I am finally feeling a lot better in the last week so my speed is starting to pick up to normal, so hopefully I will get caught up as quick as possible. As soon as I finish my current custom list, I will be focusing my sole energy on my waiting list to get through it as its getting quite long. Im not sure how long it will take me to get through my current custom list, but I will keep everyone updated on that.

And lastly, I am so excited to announce I have joined the iCrave congo. There are some amazing artisans over there, and I am very excited to have joined in with them. So, check us out over there as well. The next stocking on August 22nd features the Heather Ross Mendocino fabric. Come on over!

I do hope to keep you all updated a lot more often, so check in from time to time. :)

Stocking this week..

I will be stocking some items throughout the week. I think I will do some items as a 1 day preview (Im sorry I cant do a long preview this time, as I will be out of town on the 13th, so it has to be a quickie ;)) and than some items will just be listed as I sew them.

The first batch of items will be "back to basics" wool items. So solid colored shorts, pants, covers (some with coordinating waistbands/cuffs). Than I will also do some LWI items, and than of course some embroidered and appliqued items. Im not sure if I will have any sets this round, maybe a couple. ;) Thanks Ladies! ;)

Ok, phew, lol. For some reason typing this out seems like a lot, but a lot of the work is almost done. My ULTIMATE goal is to have everything shipped by the 12th, but since I have a lot to do from now until Thursday, some of these items may be slightly delayed until I return. If you are one of those people, I will be sending you an email in the next few days. :) I will also be putting up some items I have completed as sewing customs, and a couple more I will be doing this week. Long time, No Bloggie....

Hey ladies!!! I know it seems like years since I have posted to my blog, sorry about that. I have been SUPER busy. My family, my parents, and my sister will be going to Buffalo, NY for 5 days for my grandmothers 90th birthday! :) I will be gone from JUne 13-18th. I will be stocking my store (gotta eat on vacation! haha) one last time before I leave, I may not have time to do a long preview, and some items may be listed randomnly as I finish them. :) I will also be working late nights to attempt to finish my custom list before I go. These are some things I need to work on before the trip though:

*Packing
*Attempting to finish my custom list
*Doing one stocking this week.
*Cleaning my house so it spotless before we leave (we will be moving in the next couple months so our landlord will be showing the home while we are gone)
*Sewing my own children a couple outfits before we leave.

I only have 4 days to complete this, and I know we will also end up with one playdate during that time, and Braedon has school Monday and Wednesday, so I have a feeling not everything is going to get done. I have to meet with my mother here in about an hour to discuss last minute trip details, get some dinner, and pick the kids up some new fun things to take on the plane to keep them busy, than when I get home, I have a lot of work to do. I will try to stay on top of emails this week, but I REALLY am going to be busy probably sewing & cleaning ALL day, lol, so please be patient with me. I also will be bringing my laptop on the trip, so I plan to answer emails once a day in the evening. Sometime tonight, I will send ALL my custom ladies emails to let them know if their items will be completed before the trip, and if not when they will be completed. My initial idea was to have everything done off of my custom list before I leave but my family has been sick, so I didnt get as much done as Id liked last week.

Anyways, this is a LONG blog entry, so I am going to end it here, I will also post later tonight a detailed list of all my custom mamas and where I am in your custom, and when I plan to ship. :)

hey ladies! ok first of all my keyboard is acting out today and whenever i try to click shift to capatalize a letter, it erases the last thing i wrote, so excuse no caps today, will have to pick up a new keyboard tonight.

i think this could possibly be the most fun custom ive done. i got to design a whole wardrobe for a little girl. *smiles* the wardrobe includes:

-2 pants sets
-2 shorts sets
-2 cover sets

i will be offering a complete wardrobe custom sometime in the near future, sometime in the coming months i believe, need to work out some details first. now for the pics.

Long Time, No Post...

Hey Ladies, sorry its been nearly a week since Ive written. :) Just been busy busy busy!!! :) I just wanted to say Hi. If you are awaiting an email from me, Ill get to it by tonight. For some reason, I am SUPER tired today, I cant shake out of it, Ive tried coffee, lying on the couch with the kids to rest, slapping myself, hahaha, but none the less, Im still exhausted and not able to shake it, so if Im slow with emails, Ill get to them tonight. :)

I had a very very hard day yesterday though so that could be it. ;) I arrived to drop my son off at school and they werent letting anyone in as they were on lock-down b/c there was an armed robbery in the area. So I came home and went to the neighboors, we let the kids play while we watched the news, and locked all the doors. I finally come upstairs to pack my kids lunch, to go to a friends for a playdate, everything went fine there, but on the way home my tire shredded massively. I was on a very busy freeway going 75MPH, and in the very left lane, waah! I had to get over to the right, finally I was able to, only to sit on the side of the road for 45 mins waiting for a tow truck, I was SO close to the cars whirring by it was nuts. Anyways, I get home to a ton of emails, and I just wasnt able to email many people last night, just had too hard of a day to think straight, not to mention all the minor issues I had throughout the day. So, anyways, enough rambling. Point is, now Im tired, and Ill get to my emails tonight. :)

Hey Ladies, A few updates

1. I have been in contact with the shop, they cant find my embroidery foot, so had to order me a new one, they say itll arrive on Wednesday/Thursday at the latest. *rolls eyes* I sure hope so, b/c I do have 2 orders waiting on this. If its not here in the next 2 days or so, I am gonna seriously ask them if they will allow me to embroider on one of their machines in their store.

2. I was planning on listing customs tomorrow because I am nearly done with my custom list, however I think I will probably delay it a little b/c of my embroidery delay. I have most everyones orders (but Britt, Melissa, Laura, there may be a couple others that were later orders) nearly completed. Most all of the wool is sewn up, and I will be working on the tees/tops tomorrow. I think I will do some more instock as well sometime this week. :)

3. Please excuse any delay in ship or email lately, I have been super super swamped, at home and with my biz. So basically, even if you notice your order is complete, I may not necessarily get your item shipped right away, it may take me a few days minimum to get your order out, because I tend to do shipping only a couple times per week. So until you get a shipping notice in your inbox (this excludes Itl orders) assume I havent shipped it yet but I am getting to it. No one has even asked about this, but I thought I would bring it up, just in case people were wondering. :)

Anyhow, I hope to have all custom slots out (from my last stocking) by this week. :)

Thanks ladies, I am so glad to be working for ya all. I promise I keep saying Ill get pics and than I end up out all day with the kiddos, and the daylight is gone! LOL I wish my camera took decent pictures in the evening, as thats the most convenient time for pics, but of course it doesnt. :) So I wanna say pics tomorrow, lol, but I cant swear on it. :)

More Embroidery News

Ugh, so I called them this afternoon to let them know they didnt include my embroidery foot when I took the machine home yesterday. They said they couldnt find the foot all around the store, but I insisted it was not there, so they told me they had something there I could probably take. I drive like 30 mins there, for them to hand me a foot that is NOT the same as the foot I had. I explain this to him, he assures me it will work. I take it home, it does NOT!!!

Im so frustrated with this guy. I call him and he tells me he will check his other store, and if they dont have it, they will order me a new part, which is fine, but it just puts me behind on my embroidery items. He is due to call me back tonight any minute now. Just think happy thoughts that he has one at the other store that will work, so I can get it this weekend. Otherwise I wont be recieving the new foot until sometime next week. I just wanna embroider, why are they so mean! LOL

Anyways, Off to sew. :) Thanks ladies.

Good News-
I got my embroidery machine back today and it looks so nice and new and clean!!! He did a test embroidery and it looks wonderful!!!

Bad News-
I went to start an embroidery tonight when I realized, they forgot to give me back my embroidery foot!!!!! Grrrr, I was really really upset, and threw a fit about it whining to my husband, lol, poor guy. You have NO idea how excited I was to try it out now thats its been fixed, cleaned up and purty and looking new, and than NOOOOO. We are probably going out of town for the day tomorrow, and they are on the way out, so providing they are open on Saturday, I will get it back tomorrow.

Anyways, thanks for a successful stocking today. I think I have the best customers evah! :) I love you guys truly. I couldnt be happier working for you all. :)

And now, off to sew. ;)

Ok, back to sewing customs. I am going to update everyone on my list right now, so they know where they are. I also am stopping tonight at 11:15pm-ish, to sew my son a new tshirt and my daughter something of some sort, my poor kiddos never get a sewing day, so my new goal is to try make them ONE thing every other day, I am going to take pics. If I dont do it, hold me to it! LOL

Samantha- Wool Dyed, Idea picked out. I am beginning cutting/sewing tonight for wool.

So, I have quite a few people a week asking for customs, typically I am more than happy to put them on my custom list, but right now I am swamped, so I have had to put people on a waiting list to be added. I think a more organized way to do this, is to create a post, and people can add themselves to it by posting a comment.

When posting a comment, please add:

Your E-mail Address- So I can contact you when I am ready
Your Name- although its fine if you have to post as anonymous, just add your name somewhere in the content.

Also, if youd like to email me as well, that is totally great, but please add yourself to this list as well, because I will refer to this list when taking the extra customs. I will continue to stock customs, you are more than welcome to stalk those, and ask me to delete you from the list at anytime. I will probably take a couple of these in a 1-2 week period, so a faster method would be to stalk for a custom slot in my store. You can also opt to stalk for a custom, if you get one, you can remain in the list as well, if you would like to keep both custom slots.

As your order is taken, I will delete your comment from the list to show your order has been taken. You may add yourself to the list more than once, ONCE your first order has been taken.

Surprise Me Custom #5-

This mama is so sweet. :) I hope she likes her set. She has been a pleasure to work with always. :)

Now these shorts are for a very special boy (although I think all my customers are special :)) He has a favorite owl that he carries around and his mama, a very close and special friend (ahem cough Summer), asked me to put an owl applique on his shorts to match his owl. I am showing a pic of her sweet son with the owl (I hope thats ok Sum, LMK) and than the shorts I did for him. She in trade made my daughter a name bracelet, which arrived yesterday and Kenzie just ADORES!!!!!! She has been going around asking who "built" it for her, and she wants to thank you personally when you are on MSN, Summer. LOL Ill get a pic of it on her later! :)

Hello my friends. :) Just a quick update as I need to go sew, I have some good news and bad news.

Good News:
I got all the labels put on ALL my customers items that were waiting, as well as packaged them all up, so I will be do shipping today as scheduled, probably later tonight, as my sewing curfew is midnight, so I need to get that time in.

Bad News:
My embroidery machine, which is also my sewing machine at this time (I have a backup sewing machine thats seperate, but its broken too lol) conked out yesterday, I could not get it to embroider for the life of me, so that I had to take to the shop today. I assumed it would take 1 week to fix, but the man I spoke to thought it would be 2-3 days even if there were parts that needed to be fixed, however we will see how that goes, hopefully Ill get a call tomorrow with at least a diagnosis of the problem and than he can give me an estimate of the time. I did pick up a basic sewing machine to get me through the next few days though. However, if your custom has an embroidery, that part of your custom will be delayed until my machine returns. This does NOT include my wool appliques, those I do by hand on a machine, this is only the machine embroidery designs, and I think I may only have 2 of those anyways. I really hope its quick though as I miss my baby already!

Randomn Other News:
I still plan to stock my store on Friday, however I bet I wont have previews up until Wednesday night or Thursday during the day, we shall see.

Woooooohooooooo! Thank goodness, as I badly wanted to get all that I have here shipped, my finished wool pile is getting tall! Yaaaay, so everything that I have pictured, if it hasnt been shipped yet, will be shipped Monday, as I will be having a label-fest this weekend. :) If I pictured your items but havent completed your custom, of course your items wont be shipped until I have finished your custom. :)

You have NO idea how excited I am that my labels arrived, and I have enough to last me like a year now, so this wont happen again!!!!! :)

Im so sorry I have been MIA, I havent really been MIA, just MIA from my blog. I tend to have all the time in the world to email the first few days after a stocking and than I get busy sewing, and dealing with my kiddos, that I get sidetracked. :) Anyhow, I do have a lot of pics I need to take today to show ya all. A lot are surprise me customs and I couldnt decide if I should picture them or not if the person didnt want pics, but I think what Im going to do is picture them, not telling who its for unless youd like to know, and than let me know. ;)

Where am I?

First some bad news. I have a dilemna with my labels, so if I havent shipped out your product yet, there may be a slight delay (hopefully not being more than a few days) b/c I ran out of labels, I thought I had like 100 left when I ordered new labels 3 weeks ago or so, and either I went through 100 labels or I totally miscounted, it could totally possibly be the first with the amt of stuff I have been able to bust out lately!!! Which rocks! :) Anyhow, the labels are on their way to me, they shipped the 11th express international, so hopefully sometime early this week, they will arrive. :)

Now, for progress. :)

I forgot to include some information about my stockings in my last post. It has come to my attention that I dont stock my store enough, and I agree! :) I will be spending a couple days a week dyeing/sewing for instock during my custom list. Chances are what I will do is "schedule" time on my custom list for sewing for instock. My plan is to stock my store once per week with at least a few items. I will not be stocking my store however with custom slots until my current custom list at the time is complete, just some instock products.

If you have any ideas or requests for instock products, drop me a line, I could always use some ideas. :) sales@rainbow-waters.com

Some more new fun info! Since I failed at the day in the life of deal, lol, I will be planning on doing a start to finish post on making a wool product of some sort, maybe it will be yours ;). From the prepping of cutting the wool, prepping it, dyeing it, rinsing/washing it, drying it, and than the whole sewing process as well. Just b/c I think that will be fun for people to see. :)

So here is my schedule for tonight, just for fun:

6:30-7:00pm- Answering Emails

7:00-8:00pm- Cleaning my sewing room/kitchen (NOTHING can be sewn or dyed until these areas are cleaned, seriously, not happenning, LOL)

8:00-8:30pm- Spend time with the fam

8:30pm- Kids bedtime

8:45-9:00pm- Begin Sewing (I may answer some emails before I go to sew)

9:00-10:30pm- Sewing

10:30pm- Get my dh started with dyeing, I do all the mixing of colors, prepping, and he mostly does my stirring, rinsing and dumping while I sew.

11:30-12:00am- Curfew, cant sew anymore!! Get ready for bed. :)

12:30- Go to bed, watch TV in bed with DH.

12:30-1:00am- GoodNight! ;)

"a day in the life of" LOL. I got my son from school, headed straight to pick my dh up, we were even AT his office for a few mins and I forgot to take pics. I stink! So, I give up today, lol, and I will redo it tomorrow or Wednesday. My son only goes to preschool Mon/Wed/Fri so Tues/Thursday are sort of boring for me, so maybe Ill try tomorrow, but if I fail again, Ill do wednesday religiously from the moment I wake up! LOL Im sorry I failed, haha.

"A day in the life of" Me!

Ok....

7:15am- Braedon wakes. Ugh that was too early for me, so the bad mother I am, I asked him to watch a show or 2, and play in the room quietly, so I could rest. Every 2 mins he is talking to me, so I didnt really get to sleep, but I did rest.

9:30am- Makenzie wakes up, comes to the bedroom with us, nurses. We get up around 9:45am.

9:45am- I fix the kids breakfast which was apples and a granola bar, thats about all I can handle until I can get some coffee into me, than they get something more, haha.

10:00am- I fix myself some coffee, sit down. Drink it and check my e-mail, and some message boards . I look at an email from my husband, informing me that his car stalled out and died yet AGAIN today (we have gone through this like 4 times in a 2 week period now, and the guys keeps fixing the wrong part) and he is having it towed to the mechanic. The mechanic thinks he put in a bad alternator, and if so, it is warrantied and he will fix it for us than, we will owe him nothing. Ugh I hope thats it, Im so over throwing money into this car. This also means, I have to pick up my husband from work tonight. Ugh, his work is forever away. See, we live in the country of the city, lol, and he works in the city of the city. And I dont like driving in the city! LOL Im making no sense, Ill explain later.

10:30am- I get in the shower, get out get dressed. 11:00am- Get Braedon and Makenzie ready to take Braedon to school.

11:30am- We leave to take B to school.

Here we are walking down the stairs, leaving.

Here we are at the car, yes its a dorky car, but it works, lol.

Here I am, about ready to drive off, yes Im wierd.

This is a daily struggle with my daughter. She has a rock obsession. This pile of rocks is right beside where we park the car. So EVERYTIME before she gets into her carsear, we deal with her getting into the rocks, Im surprised there are any left to look at for crying outloud, I usually try to get her to not do it, and put any rocks back, but she has smuggled quite a few. *sigh*

11:40- We arrive at school

And here he is waiting his turn, yes that is toilet paper next to him, I guess the last kid had some fun. It was clean, lol.

Here is my son washing his hands, they ask all the kids to wash their hands before class to minimize germies. Hes drying his hands here.

12:10pm- We arrive home finally, we stayed with Braedon a few mins as they were doing something new today and he was being a little bit clingy. We are walking up stairs and our neighboor calls me, so we go into her pad for a few mins. Makenzie gets to play with her 4 yr old son. We talk a bit about school (he is at the same school as Braedon but in the morning class) and some things we need to bring. Just general chit chat. We stay down there about an hour.

1:10pm- We come back upstairs to our place, and I get lunch started for Kenzie and I, we have avocados and organic mac n cheese, yes Im boring today.

1:30pm- We eat lunch.

2:00pm- We are now just kicking it, doing nothing, lol, on here posting stuff. I am going to get up and clean here in 2 mins. My husband has now informed me that our car did have a bad alternator, and the guys fixed it on him, and I have to go get my husband straight after picking up Braedon at 3:15pm. So I better get some cleaning done now. No pics for now, maybe Ill take some of my house as I clean it. :) My life is so boring, LOL.

Ok, its not really not of the morning, haha. Its closer to bottom of the morning if there was one. Im off to take my son to preschool, I am gonna try to do a little "day in the life of" today, just for fun. :) So far, Ive got a pic of me drinking my coffee which is basically the most important part of my day, without that part of my day, my day doesnt really function. Haha

Anyways, off to drop my son off at school. :) Ill be back and upload some pics for this "a day in the life of" thingy.

Title says it all. I say things, than get busy and dont get it done, by the time I remember its dark and I cant take pics in the dark, they turn out awful without the sun. Sorry! So here are the pictures I promised. They also dont have labels yet, I need to do that. However, one exciting new thing is, I bought some spray lanolin, so my covers will now come lightly lanolized and ready to wear. Yipeeee!

Happy Friday! I have a full day ahead of me today. I will be taking pics of my progress later today however, I have completed:

* Lisas Cupcake Covers
* Valeries Butterfly Cover
* Shannons Capris & Pants (just need to hem them)
* Woody Diaper for Jane
* Cut all the remaining orders out, just need to sew it. :)

What I need to do today:

11:00am- get us all ready to take my son to preschool Done
11:30am- leave for preschool Done
12:00am- get home, and start cleaning the house, from top to bottom Done
2:00pm- sew for one hour before I have to leave to pick up my son from preschool Did not happen, lol
3:00pm- leave to get my son from preschool Done
3:30pm- get home, and finish any cleaning/laundry. If the house is done, sit on my tushy for a few mins on the computer (lol), or go sew. Computer happenned, laundry didnt, I did felt up some more wool though!! haha
5:30pm- Dh is home, we need to go grocery shopping DONE, yay, we had NO food, now we have lots
8:30pm- Get kids ready for bed, get kids to bed Done
9-9:3opm- get sewin' Done, and finished Marybels custom
12:00am- My Sewing Curfew, go sit on the computer for 30 mins. Done
12:30am- Bedtime, go to bed, watch some TV/talk wit Dh Done
1-130am- Crash! yay! :) Done

Another dye night tonight

Not much sewing went on today. I did however get through the last 12 colors of dyeing on my custom list. Usually I have 3 dye pots going at a time, and it takes me nearly an hour to prep, dye, rinse those 3 colors. With my husbands help, we got through 12 colors in under 2 hours minus the cleanup. He has become a huge help and commodity to my business. We are working hard to up my efficiency, so I can take on more orders in a quicker manner (aka, instead of taking 3 weeks to complete my custom list, taking 1-2 weeks instead). If we can succeed at doing this, our financial comfort level will greatly increase, and for that I thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart! I also want to thank my husband, who has worked so hard lately working all day, than coming home and helping with the children, helping putting them to sleep, and than waking up to help me with my business. He is my rock, and I couldn't do this without his support, which he always has been 100% supportive.

So thank you all so much!!! You give me the ability to stay home with my kids, and thank you Jimmy for being my rock baby! :)

Anyways, onto the good stuff, ALL of my custom list is now dyed up, in the wash. Tomorrow I will take pics. So now, all I have to do it sew it up!!! So if you are on my custom list, and haven't seen pics yet, just know you will see them soon. :)

Good Morning!!!

Oh my!!! Drama in the Finnegan crib this AM! lol

My husbands sole and only duty this AM was to get me coffee grounds. No, I am not cool and dont have a grinder yet. So, this AM I wake up, see my fresh bag of starbucks coffee grounds (I know I need to try Uber Geek Coffee, just need a grinder first) pry it open, which takes some work mind you when you are a zombie. I open it up, get ready to pour it, when I realize. HE GOT ME BEANS!!! Nooooooooo! So, Im like starting to go into freakout mode here. Not only am I brutally upset he didnt get me coffee GROUNDS, Im starting to come up with insane ideas in my head like "waah its the little things that count!" "why doesnt he pay attention to the small details, I did remind him he needed to buy ground, does he pay no attention to me and my simple needs?" which I know is a little extreme for him buying me beans instead of ground, but oy I need my coffee to live.

Waaaah! Why me??

In the meantime, its gonna take some extra time to get movin' this AM for me, hopefully I live. ;) Standby!

Spring has sprung up on us very quickly in San Diego and my poor kids are still in LS tees and pants, cause I havent had time to sew for them, lol. I will be doing some biz sewing, but the majority of my sewing tomorrow will be for my babies! :) I will post pics. ;)

Here is my pile of wool customs, that NEED to go out tomorrow. Some items are parts of a custom, so they wont go out until the rest of the custom is complete. Most will be shipped tonight, and sent out tomorrow. :) Be patient though, its a lot of shipping to do, I promise to be timely though.

Hey there!!! This is what I accomplished today:

* dyed 3 different colors for a few different orders.
* sewed Britts birdy shorts
* sewed Valeries Car Soaker
*Cut and appliqued Britts flower shorts (will sew up tomorrow)

I could have done better but with a crazy 2.5 yr old and 4 yr old today, I was lucky to get anything done. :)

Just for fun, I took a pic of me sewing tonight (valeries cover) and wow, remind me to suck in next time, cause all that frozen yogurt this week has given me a GUT!!!! My new goal is to go to the gym 4-5 times a week, b/c this picture puts my 98lb high school self into cardiac arrest!!!

Anyways, I didnt get a pic of anything else but this race car cover, which is gonna make my almost 5 yr old, who has been pottytrained since before he was 3, wish he was still in diapers!!! Thanks Valerie, I will e-mail you sometime this weekend!!
